Weekly poll results: the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, X8s and X8s+ are hot stuff, but availability is an issue

This sucks – not the new Oppo Find X8 phones, last week’s poll shows that those are awesome. What sucks is that with no plans for global availability, many fans don’t have the option of getting one, even if it’s their top pick.

The Oppo Find X8 Ultra was welcomed by a virtual parade – half of voters would buy one if they could. Some like it so much that they will try importing one, despite all the headaches and issues that come with that (e.g. does it even support the right 5G bands?).

Some think that the X8 Ultra is too expensive, but a top-of-the-line camera flagship was never going to be cheap. We have a unit in for review, so expect a detailed report soon. For now, you can check out our impromptu Find X8 Ultra vs. X7 Ultra camera shootout for a peek at how the new hardware stacks up against one of 2024’s best. We also have a photo tour of Xi’an, if you’re interested. Both phones will be slow to age in terms of camera quality and performance, which partly justifies their price.

The Oppo Find X8s was almost as popular with essentially half of the vote going in its favor. The numbers would have looked even better if we had subtracted the number of people who are not interested in a small flagship (they can always get an X8s+ or an X8 Ultra).

Small – not tiny but small – flagships are relatively rare. A screen diagonal of 6.2-6.3” seems to be the sweet spot, considering that only 3.5% of voters want something smaller (this is backed up by sales of smaller phones or rather the lack thereof).

Predictably, the Oppo Find X8s+ is the least exciting of the three new models – it’s a nice but iterative upgrade over the X8. That said, there is still a fairly large potential market for this model, if only it had a global launch.

With the Find X8s+, positive reviews and maybe a price cut can improve its popularity to a greater degree than the others (which are already quite popular).

That’s it for now, but expect to see more test results from the Oppo Find X8 Ultra soon.
