After a couple of years of development, OpenAI has officially released GPT-5 which, according to them, is the most advanced AI model so far. The company compares the operation of this new version with experts in various fields, saying that the new AI can handle tasks from coding to engineering and law, etc., at the level of, or even better than, experts in many fields. GPT-5 is now available to all ChatGPT users, but users with free accounts get limited access while paid plans offer higher usage and upgraded versions.
Four Versions for Different Needs
OpenAI GPT-5 comes in nano, mini, standard, and chat versions. Each version is designed for different kinds of work, and a new “real-time router” picks the best version based on what the conversation needs. There’s also a deeper “thinking” mode meant for more complex problems, allowing the AI to think more carefully before giving answers.
Smarter, Faster, and More Accurate
One of the main improvements in GPT-5 is its ability to understand and follow longer, more detailed instructions. It can connect multiple tools in a chain to finish multi-step tasks without losing track. In real-world tests like SWE-Bench and Aider Polyglot, GPT-5 scored top marks, producing cleaner code and fixing mistakes more effectively. OpenAI also says it has made big progress in cutting down “hallucinations,” or moments when the AI gives wrong or made-up information.
Better at Many Jobs
According to OpenAI, GPT-5 has expert-level skills in 40 different types of work. These include law, logistics, engineering, and more. This means that the AI will have the ability to offer help to people in many careers. The improvements in reasoning also make it more reliable for tasks that require deep thinking.
Personalisation and Extra Tools
The GPT-5 will now offer users more ways to personalize their work with different tools for various chat personalities like Cynic, Robot, Listener or Nerd. Colour themes and new links with Gmail and Google Calendar can now assist in messaging and scheduling tasks.
The rollout has already started for all ChatGPT users. Free users can try GPT-5 with limits, while Plus and Pro subscribers get more access and better model versions. With its mix of stronger reasoning, higher accuracy, and personalization, GPT-5 is shaping up to be OpenAI’s biggest step forward yet in AI assistance.
