No RAM Upgrade Expected for iPhone 17 Series

If you were expecting a huge RAM boost in the iPhone 17 series, you might be let down. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple won’t be increasing RAM on all iPhone 17 models as expected. Instead, the full 12GB RAM boost is now set for the iPhone 18 series in 2026.

Apple Delays 12GB RAM Update for iPhone 18 Series

Apple had originally intended to increase the RAM of all iPhone 17 models. Issues with component sourcing and higher production costs prompted them to change their minds. It will only be the high-end models—iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max—that will have 12GB of RAM. The base model iPhone 17 will stick with 8GB.

Apple is trying to save money with this move. According to experts, it would cost up to 50% more in components by adding more RAM, from 8GB to 12GB. Because of the issues right now regarding making and pricing products, Apple did not upgrade all of them at the moment.

The good news is that Apple hopes for an improvement in the future. As of 2026, Apple would want to negotiate lower rates with memory suppliers. The new agreements should bring down the price of RAM and thereby enable Apple to provide 12GB of RAM in every iPhone 18 model.

This memory increase will be of actual benefit. Users can expect improved multitasking, improved gaming, and improved AI features on their devices. While the wait may frustrate some enthusiasts, it ensures that when the upgrade does arrive, it will be more widespread and have a greater impact.

Apple’s strategy may appear cautious, but it is trying to balance improved performance with sound cost control. Rather than rushing to make a costly upgrade now, Apple is choosing to wait until it can offer better value to all. What do you think about this decision? Do you believe that Apple is making the right call, or do you want them to have gone ahead with the RAM upgrade this year? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section!
