Some iPhone users in Europe may be left out when it comes to enjoying all the new features in iOS 26. Apple has said that several tools expected in the update might not roll out in EU countries because of strict rules from the European Union.
What’s Missing from iOS 26 in Europe?
The two key features already confirmed to be affected are iPhone mirroring to Mac. This feature lets users see and control their iPhone screen on a Mac. There is also Live Updates, a tool that shows real-time updates on your lock screen, such as food deliveries or sports scores. These features are either delayed or may not launch at all in Europe. There are speculations that AirDrop and the handy file-sharing tool might be restricted for EU users in the future.
Why Is This Happening?
Apple blames the Digital Markets Act (DMA), which is a set of EU rules that are put in place to keep big tech companies in check. The company says these rules force it to share its tech and user data with other businesses. This practice could weaken privacy and security for users.
Kyle Andeer, Apple’s head of legal affairs, explained that the company finds it hard to meet all the new demands. Apple also claims the rules seem unfair, as they don’t appear to apply equally to every company.
Apple Points Fingers at Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram. According to Apple, Meta is using the DMA to demand access to data and tools that have nothing to do with its main services. Apple argues this puts pressure on them while giving Meta an advantage.
Same Price, Fewer Features
One big concern for many users is that they’re paying the same (or more) for iPhones in Europe as users in other parts of the world, but getting fewer features. Apple has said this isn’t fair to customers and hopes the EU rules can be reviewed or adjusted.

For now, Apple says it is trying to follow the rules while still giving users a good experience. However, unless changes are made, European Union users may keep seeing delays or missing features in future updates. Both sides, Apple and the European Union, will need to find a middle ground. In the end, it’s regular users who are stuck in the middle.
