Faster, further, longer – and with better cameras. The new DJI Mavic 4 Pro upgrades on its predecessor on basically every front and it has a unique trick, the 360° Infinity Gimbal.

The gimbal can rotate a full 360-degrees for Dutch angles and vertical videos. It can also look up 70° for dramatic shots.

This gimbal holds three cameras: wide, medium tele and long tele. The main is a 100MP Hasselblad camera with a large Four Thirds sensor and a wide 28mm lens (up from 20MP sensor). This module has an adjustable aperture from f/2.0 to f/11.

Next is the medium telephoto camera, a 48MP 1/1.3” unit with a 70mm lens (this is similar to the 3 Pro camera). Then there is the long telephoto module with a 50MP 1/1.5” sensor and a 168mm lens (f/2.8 aperture), a notable upgrade from the 12MP 1/2” module on the 3 Pro.

The three cameras promise consistent color reproduction, so you can cut between them easily. All three support 10-bit D-Log, D-Log M and HLG color profiles. You can get 4K/60fps HDR video with at least 13 stops of dynamic range from any one camera.

The Hasselblad main camera can go up to 6K/60fps and has up to 16 stops of dynamic range. For slow motion clips, the main and medium tele cameras have 4K/120fps modes, while the long tele goes up to 4K/100fps.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro has a 95Wh battery, which offers more power – the drone can fly for up to 51 minutes and can reach top speeds of 90km/h. For comparison, the 3 Pro could stay aloft for up to 43 minutes.

The upgraded DJI O4+ transmission system lets you fly the drone at up to 41km range. If you keep to 30km range, you will get 10-bit HDR video transmission.

The new model has six fisheye cameras with low-light capability and dual processors for navigation and collision avoidance. These achieve omnidirectional obstacle avoidance at up to 65km/h in low light. In good light, the drone will map its environment and can return to home even without GPS reception. The ActiveTrack 360° system can track subjects even if they are partially obscured and can detect and track vehicles from up to 200m away.

DJI also introduces a new remote, the DJI RC Pro 2. It has a 7” mini-LED display and 128GB of built-in memory. Battery life is up to 4 hours. You can record audio using either the on-board microphone or by pairing a DJI Mic.

Additionally, the Mavic 4 Pro can be used with the Parallel Charging Hub. It can charge up to three batteries – it pushes more power to the battery with the lowest charge and once they are level, it charges them all equally. One battery can be charged in 50 minutes, all three take 90 minutes.

This hub also has a few clever tricks – for example, it can take power from charged batteries and spread it out to batteries that need charging. Or you can use it as a 100W power bank to charge your phones and laptops.

DJI’s QuickTransfer feature lets you use the DJI Fly app to pull videos from the drone at up to 80MB/s using Wi-Fi 6 – you can do that while the drone is tucked away in its bag. You can also use a USB-C cable for faster wired transfers.

The DJI Mavic 4 Pro will not be available in the US, but it is available in Europe. The basic package includes the drone (with 64GB built-in storage), a battery and the more basic DJI RC 2 remote. This is priced at €2,100.

The Fly More Combo is €2,700 and adds two additional batteries, a 100W USB-C power adapter, the charging hub and a shoulder bag to carry everything. Finally, the Creator Combo features a drone with more built-in storage (512GB), the new DJI RC Pro 2 remote, a 240W power adapter and a USB C-to-C data cable. This package is a hefty €3,540.
