“Too little, too late?” Google mocks Apple’s slow AI rollout

Google is getting ready to announce its latest lineup, the Pixel 10 series, which includes the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, on August 20. The event will also bring the Pixel Watch 4 and Pixel Buds 2a. With the launch just around the corner, Google has decided to heat things up with a cheeky new teaser aimed squarely at Apple.

A Playful but Sharp Message

The short video, posted on Google’s official YouTube channel, pokes fun at Apple’s slow rollout of its promised AI features. In the clip, a voiceover suggests that if you buy a smartphone for a feature that has been “coming soon” for a year, you might need to rethink what “soon” means, or rethink your choice of phone altogether.

It’s a clear nudge to iPhone users still waiting for certain AI tools that Apple announced but hasn’t yet delivered. The message is obvious: if you’re tired of waiting, Google thinks the Pixel should be your next move.

Not Many Will Jump Ship

While the video’s humour will catch attention, Google is likely aware that it won’t spark a mass migration from iPhones to Pixels. Apple’s customer loyalty is famously strong, and most users won’t ditch their iPhones just because a feature is late. Still, the advertisement works as a lighthearted way to keep Google in the conversation as the launch date nears.

One detail in the teaser is worth noting: the background track is an instrumental version of “The Next Episode” by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg. The choice seems deliberate, as Dr. Dre sold Beats to Apple in 2014. Google threw a playful jab at Apple by using one of Dr. Dre’s biggest hits.

Building Hype for the Big Day

In the weeks leading up to the August 20 event, Google’s upcoming devices have been leaking almost daily, keeping fans and tech watchers busy. By releasing this teaser video, Google is making sure that its launch stays in the spotlight. However, it will take much more than one funny ad to persuade smartphone enthusiasts to move from Apple to Google, and Google is undoubtedly aware of this. Nevertheless, Google is trying to be an entertainer while promoting its product.
