Xiaomi Set to Launch Its Own Xring Processor

Xiaomi is set to launch its first domestically developed mobile processor, the Xring. The processor is poised to be officially launched in late May. The move is an important step for Xiaomi to become more self-sufficient in the smartphone sector.

Xiaomi Prepares to Launch its First Self-Developed Processor: The Xring

So, Qin Muyun, a former Qualcomm executive, spearheaded the Xring project. His background brings Xiaomi and its new chip design team solid leadership and guidance. Xiaomi will compete head-to-head with large chipmakers such as Qualcomm and MediaTek through the Xring.

Xiaomi used TSMC’s 4nm N4P process to produce the chip. It did not use the new 3nm technology to avoid potential restrictions like Huawei has been facing. This will keep Xiaomi free from sanctions across the globe and supply chain issues.

Also, the Xring processor comes with eight cores. At its core is a high-intensity Cortex-X925 core with a clock speed of 3.2GHz. It is supported by three Cortex-A725 cores operating at 2.6GHz and four Cortex-A520 operating at 2.0GHz. This combination provides a solid mix of performance and efficiency.

Xiaomi Takes a Bold Step with Its First Custom Mobile Chip, the Xring

For graphics, Xiaomi uses the Imagination IMG DXT72 GPU, which has a clock speed of 1.3GHz. Early indications are that the Xring performance could be similar to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. That’s a good sign that Xiaomi means business in the premium space.

By developing its own chip, Xiaomi reduces its dependence on outside suppliers. It can better control how its devices work together. It also allows for more flexibility and quicker updates.

So, this move shows Xiaomi’s larger goal—to become a leader in global mobile technology. Creating its own processors is a big part of that vision. It helps Xiaomi stand out and gives it more control over its future products.

Additional details regarding the Xring chip will be revealed at its launch event next month in May. Enthusiasts and fans wait with bated breath to find out how it performs in regular use.

So, what are your opinions regarding Xiaomi’s new chip? Can it compete with the industry leaders of the processor market? Share your views in the comments below!
